LAST WALK

The end of our walk has we tasted a bolo do caco: a bread made with sweet potato flour.

The marina of Funchal was built close to the old port, to allow the mooring of the sailing ships and boats of cruising. Its position between Europe and America, attracts many navigators who cross the Atlantic.

Just apart from Funchal, in edge from sea the district extends from the hotelsswimming pool of the Lido

Lévadas true paradises of the hikers. These channels transport water to irrigate the plantations of banana trees, vineyards and gardens. There is 2150 km channels of which some date from XVIème century.

PONTO DE SAO LOURENCO

Ponta de Sao Lourenço natural reserve since 1982

this point is stretched in the east of Madeira where it forms almost island a 9 km length on 2 of large, it includes 2 small islands. Only some wild flowers manage to push. very different from the remainder of the island, geology carries traces of a more recent volcanic activity, with its hills of ashes and sandstone. there was so much wind, which we must squat not to fall and we could not go until the end of the island.

The botanical garden was created in 1960, it contains more than 2000 exotics plants. Le garden became a center of studies for the scientists who devote themselves to the protection of the plants threatened of extinction.
I even saw there into large the plant of my friend Peter.
